Take Me To Your Heart

My outfit when I went out and about in Cyprus with my dragon boat teammates the day after the race. I haven't posted in posted a blog in a long time so I'm glad I have something to share again. I can't smile in the photos because my eyes are trying to beat the glares of the sun. :)

The Butterflies Arrived and Thawed Winter

We are enjoying the last few days of winter in Dubai for soon, hot and humid days will start. Dubai, being a small speck of the vast Middle East desert, doesn't experience the four seasons. But it gets cold and breezy in the winter and very humid in summers. As the mercury slightly increases, outfits become less layered. In this look, I decided to combine dark and light colors.

What I am wearing:
beanies - Max Fashions
shirt - H&M
waistcoat - Max Fashions

pants - Lee Cooper, Splash Fashions
shoelaces - New Yorker
I bought the shirt from H&M eons ago but its one of my favorites.  The print is a collage of butterflies in a human skull. It's like telling a story that when the butterflies arrived, winter was killed and spring bloomed. The waistcoat from Max Fashions is made of cotton and soft, not the usual stiff and formal one. Best for street style look.

Combining dark and light tones makes a cool statement. Adding a smile makes it more cool. :)

Feels Like New!

What better way to freshen up an old high tops than use bright orange shoelaces! I so love these pair of sneakers that I wore them in 2 of my previous posts. But then the all-black feeling was so boring that when I was scouring for clothes in Dubai Mall, I chanced upon these bright colorful shoelaces from New Yorker and didn't hesitate buying.

What I am wearing:
high tops - Max Fashions
shoelaces - New Yorker
loop scarf - Splash Fashions
 shirt - Max Fashions
 pants - Splash Fashions
I like to mix bright or neon colors with blacks, grays or neutrals. This way the colors pop. The winter cold air is still hovering in Dubai so its fitting to layer up so I wore this wool loop scarf. A great find from Splash!

This is officially my first post for 2014. And its been two months since my last post! Fashion is still my interest so I definitely have to update my blog every now and then. Until next post and a hello from me to you! ;)

ma'a as-salaama 2013, marhaba 2014!

I have been working in the Middle East for more than 4 years and I have been grateful for the experiences and the things I have learned. I got to know more about different cultures and the people, got used to the hot and humid weather during summers, and explore more the fashion side of me! Another year is about to end and I want to welcome 2014 with high hopes!

The cold winter days became chillier so its fitting to bundle up when I will watch the Burj Khalifa light up with fireworks tonight! I'm gonna be wearing this outfit throughout the day.
What I am wearing:
snapback - UCLA, gift from my sister
pullover - Mossimo, thrifted
scarf - Keffiyeh (a traditional Middle Eastern headdress)
double breasted, zip up, textured vest - Lee Cooper, Splash Fashions
pants - Lee Cooper, Splash Fashions

Shoes - Max Fashions
Coffee to-go to beat the mid-day drowsiness, hehe, and the Keffiyeh was so wide and long that I had to coil it up around my neck twice!
I love the texture of the vest which perfectly matched the textured shoes.
Credits to my friend who took these pictures. She certainly had the eye for photography and I encouraged her to pursue it.
The blog post title is in Arabic and if you guessed it right, it means goodbye 2013, hello 2014!

It's Not Too Much If Things Make A Good Match

It's winter time again and cold gusts of wind have swept the Dubai sandpit. Though it doesn't snow, the mercury dips in the desert too. So it's high time to layer and bundle up!

What I am wearing:
beanie - bought from a souvenir store in a Baguio City, Philippines
striped green shirt - R&B
sleeveless button-up shirt -
bought from a second hand shop
in Baguio City, Philippines
skinny jeans - Splash Fashions
sweater jacket - Splash Fashions
hi top sneakers - Max Fashions
A colleague once told me that with clothes, we should stick to up to 3 colors. But sometimes, we can explore beyond 3 hues. And that is the time fashion and styling sense are challenged. It may be too much but if the colors make a good match then the outfit will not go wrong. With this outfit, I chose to combine light shades of brown, green, red and black.

I didn't bring a digital camera or a DSLR so I relied on the iPhone 5S camera. Here is a closeup shot of the accessories I wore. Not bad isn't it?

Accessories:
rosary beads - souvenir shop in Baguio
watch - Seiko
braided bracelet - Penshoppe

With good lighting, the camera takes decent photos but the flash isn't reliable on low light areas and if the subject is too far.

I hope to add more bursts of fun on my subsequent outfits. Until next post!

Red, Green, White and Black (Celebrating UAE's 42nd National Day)

Weeks ago, everyone in the UAE was in a festive mood, expats and locals alike. It's the nation's 42nd founding anniversary on the 2nd of December plus Dubai recently won the bid to host Expo 2020! UAE has opened its doors to expats like me, and I've been grateful since.

During that time of the year, the UAE flag's colors of red, green, white and black are everywhere. Huge flags draping in front of houses, flag poles erected on buildings, flaglets adorning establishments, cars splashed with decorations, and even Burj Khalifa lighting up with the four colors! To join in the merriment, I decided to wear the flag's colors as I went around Dubai with friends.

This is my first blog post, and I will do my best to update it regularly! :)
